TMD & JAW PAIN CARE
When Your Jaw Is the Problem
Your temporomandibular joints (TMJ) work thousands of times a day, talking, chewing, even swallowing. When they’re strained or inflamed (a condition called TMD), you might feel clicking or popping, tension in the jaw and temples, morning headaches, ear discomfort, or a jaw that locks or won’t open smoothly. Many people live with this for years without realizing a dentist can help. Conveniently located in Kingsland Plaza on Macleod Trail — minutes from Acadia, Fairview, Haysboro, Southwood, and Chinook Station.
How We Treat TMD
- Assessment first — we examine your joints, muscles, bite, and wear patterns on your teeth, and talk through your symptoms and habits (clenching and grinding are the usual suspects).
- Custom night guard / splint therapy — the most common and effective starting point: a precision-fitted appliance that takes pressure off the joints and protects your teeth while you sleep.
- Bite adjustments & habit strategies — small corrections and practical guidance that reduce daily strain.
- Honest referrals — when symptoms need physiotherapy or medical management, we’ll say so and point you well.
What Does TMD Treatment Cost?
Assessment is part of a standard exam. Custom splints and night guards are quoted individually with a written quote first, and many insurance plans cover night guards for grinding; we’ll check yours and bill directly where possible.
Common Questions
Is jaw clicking always a problem? Painless clicking on its own often just needs monitoring. Clicking with pain, locking, or headaches is worth an assessment.
Can TMD cause headaches? Yes, jaw-muscle tension commonly shows up as temple headaches, especially in the morning if you grind at night.
Will I need surgery? Very rarely. The overwhelming majority of TMD improves with conservative care like splint therapy.
How fast will I feel better? Many patients notice meaningful relief within a few weeks of consistent night-guard wear; we adjust as you go.
